Powerful Little Stove Added to Our Camping Gear

http://www.campinghikingplus.com/2010/May/Powerful-Little-Stove-Added-to-Our-Camping-Gear.htm

I can't believe my good luck in finding a new camping stove for our camping gear. It a nice backpacking stove, but we'll use it when we're car camping too, and maybe break it out at home when we need an extra burner. The stove I found puts out an amazing 11,000 BTUs of heat which is enough heat to boil nearly a quart of water in just four minutes. This is the Brunton Foldable Canister Backpack Stove with Piezo Ignition and it weighs just five ounces minus the gas canister. I may even use it at home this summer to cook on the patio when I don't feel like heating up the kitchen.

Normally I sequester our camping gear from our regular cooking equipment, but this little stove shows a lot of promise for the home and campground. I like the fact that it's built as a tripod so it will be incredibly stable and weighs so little. We live in Phoenix where the weather is incredibly hot, so on the hottest of days, I take the cooking outside so I don't add any extra heat to the house. When the sun shines on our house all day long and it's over 100 out, our air conditioner works hard to keep us comfortable and I don't want to make it work harder by cooking.

On really hot weekends we head for the mountains with our camping gear to enjoy the cool temperatures so I'm always looking for new camping gear that is high quality, light weight, and performs well. It looks like the camping stove I found at Paradigm Camping Gear located at http://www.paradigmcampinggear.com/ is just that. Since it folds down, it won't take up much space and I can even leave our propane stove burner at home or add it to the the pile of garage sale stuff in the garage. We love to take along small and lightweight camping gear because it makes loading and unloading so much easier.

We take off for the mountains late Friday afternoons and I fix sandwiches to bring along so we don't have to stop. We eat in the car and most of the time get to our favorite campground by 7 PM which gives us just enough daylight to get the tents set up and some of our camping gear unloaded. With the little Brunton canister stove, I'll be able to get breakfast going in the morning easily and it won't take long to fry up the bacon and eggs since this stove burns just as hot as the burners on the kitchen stove do. I may even go back to the Paradigm website to buy another one so we can cook on two burners on the patio or at the campground.

I credit my valiant efforts to persistence, patience and a great camping skillet. Not only does my favorite camping gear skillet collapse, but it is one of the best non stick pans that I have ever used, camping or otherwise. I have learned such a great appreciation for cooking now more than I ever have in my life.

I would have never guessed that having the right camping cooking supplies could make such a large difference when it came to the speed and taste of preparing meals in the campsite. I noticed a huge improvement in the meals I was serving after I found my camping skillet online and took it camping for the first time.

Everyone love to go camping with me now. They love my camping gear skillet and other cooking supplies and even more so, they love the meals that are prepared while using them. I can not wait to pack up the camping gear and set out on our next adventure.

You see, I love camping, but my wife and I are on a really strict budget as we stash our cash for our dream vacation at the end of this year! This has meant making some sacrifices as of late, like going out less and staying in more so that we will have enough money set aside come the time for our vacation in December; we are planning on going to Hawaii. So when I needed a new camping gear stove and tent in January to replace the aging ones that had served me so well over the past few years, all I can say is thank goodness for online shopping. Otherwise I would not have been able to get the gear I needed!

It is absolutely my favorite place in the world. I am fortunate to have relatives in Hawaii who I can stay with. However, there's nothing like camping on the beaches of Hawaii, especially the beautiful and romantic island of Kauai.

Salt Pond Beach is one place where campers go to bask in the glorious beauty of nature and the rolling waves. There's nothing like waking up to see the gorgeous Hawaiian sunrise and staying up to see the sun set into the ocean. I make sure to bring adequate camping gear for Hawaii. Most importantly, I bring a tent. I love having the privacy of a tent, so this is a vital part of my camping gear. Other camping gear items that I bring are first-aid kits, portable cooking items and more. Even though it's the beach, it's great to be prepared for anything.

The great thing about Salt Pond is that there are shops that you can walk to. It can be quite the walk, but you can still venture off and find food or other items that you may need.

Camping on the beach is an experience that every avid camper should try.

I will actually be heading out there to visit him and stay up there towards the end of the summer, and he has told me that he wants to take me on my very first deep sea fishing adventure while I am there; which I am very excited about doing. However, I am not one to embark upon something without first educating myself on the doings of it. So over the past few weeks, ever since I got confirmation from my older brother that I was heading up there for some deep sea fishing, I have been doing tons of online research to really learn more about this awesome outdoors sport. Indeed, I have taken some really great mental notes, and now thanks to the many awesome informational outlets online that provide free tips on deep sea fishing, I should have a much better idea of what I am doing when I am out there at the end of this year.

New Bowls Handy for Kitchen and Camping Gear

http://www.campinghikingplus.com/2010/April/New-Bowls-Handy-for-Kitchen-and-Camping-Gear.htm

Camping season is nearly here and today when I was online shopping for a new sleeping bag, I ran across some camping gear that I think will be really handy. In fact, I ordered several of these stainless steel bowls for the camping gear and the kitchen. They are the GSI Stainless Steel Bowl w/Handle and I know I'll get lots of use from them when we're camping. I like the fact that they have handles and they are made from nonreactive stainless steel so I can put anything in them that I want to mix up. We can even put these over a fire, too, if we want to stir fry or just heat some water to do dishes.

That handle is such a good idea. I'll be able to just toss out the dirty dishwater without having to hold both sides of the bowl and not have to worry about water sloshing all over my jeans or T shirt. Actually, I thought this was such a handy bowl that I ordered four of them, two for the camping gear and two for the kitchen. I keep our camping gear separate from our kitchen gear because it's much easier and faster to get ready to go camping that way. When we have all the cooking items together in the camping gear, it saves going through the kitchen figuring out what to take and what to leave and nine times out of ten, I forget something.

I wanted these for the kitchen, too, because they have such a nice wide bottom. I bake all our own bread and the wide bottom on this bowl will make it much easier to knead the dough instead of on the counter which can be messy at home and not advisable when we're camping. Bread dough picks up every scrap of material it touches, so being able to knead the dough in the bowl without it touching any other surface is good.

I found these bowls at Paradigm Camping Gear located at www.paradigmcampinggear.com, a great site for finding lots of useful camping gear. We camp a lot in the summer and having the camping gear all ready to go before it's even time to start camping feels so good. Our summers are hot and when we go up to the mountains, we lose at least 30 degrees in temperature. We could stay home and crank down the air conditioning, but it's more fun to have the experience of the pine trees and blue jays.

I am usually a very girlie girl, but when I go late night deep sea fishing with dad, all rules change. The two of us still go together and we both cherish it so very much. Over time we have acquired many fishing tools that help us a great deal and I would have to say that my flashlight is my favorite and most necessary night time fishing item.

When we are out on the ocean in the early mornings, it is still pitch black out. It is very easy to loose the little items important to catching fish and it is quite easy to get hurt. I always keep my flashlight near me so that I can find what I need to use as quickly as possible. I would not trade my memories of deep sea fishing with my dad for any others and I even hope to have a child that I can take on this tradition with me in the future. I do not believe that anyone would guess that my hobby was deep sea fishing, but that is just another reason that I like it!

When we go out on an adventure, we know to bring appropriate hiking gear. For us, this means everything from water purifying tablets to tents. It is very important for us to pack tents that are lightweight and will not make our hiking gear too heavy. Recently, my backpacking tent became unusable and I went online to buy a new one. I needed to find something light, durable, cheap and quick, it would not be long before another hiking trip was under way.

I went online and bought a backpacking tent from my favorite online superstore and it was delivered only a few days later. When I wore my new tent on my hiking gear and I could barely feel the difference! I felt so light as I hiked with my friends and I did not feel fatigued at all. Buying my tent and other hiking gear online was such a wonderful idea for me. I satisfied all of my original wants easily and have a great tent just like I wanted. I love my life of hiking and camping and I would not trade it for anything.

He has a really nice boat docked at the shores there and loves to go out deep sea fishing from time to time with his buddies. He gave me the shocker of a birthday present this year when he emailed me round trip airline tickets to and from Vermont so that I could come out there later on this year and visit his wife and his daughter, and so he could take me out on my very first deep sea fishing trip ever. I really can’t wait to get out there, and I won’t be headed that way for about six more months. But you can bet that I am super excited to go deep sea fishing for the very first time. And my brother has quite the experience with deep sea fishing, so I am sure that he will be able to teach me the ins and outs and that the experience will be one that I soon shall not forget—not to mention cherish for years to come!

Right Size Sleeping Bag Important for Camping Gear

http://www.campinghikingplus.com/2010/March/Right-Size-Sleeping-Bag-Important-for-Camping-Gear.htm

I got together with my backpacking buddy from years ago at her house over the weekend and she showed me her latest big find for her camping gear. She said she bought the Backside HM +20° Blueice Mummy Bag last fall before our winter camping season started because it was a better size for her than her existing sleeping bag. She has been camping a couple of times this winter with it and just loves it because it's just her size. And it's light. It weighs all of 2.5 pounds, so it doesn't take up much space in her camping gear or weigh things down. All it takes is one night in a sleeping bag that's too big to realize the importance of getting the proper size bag for a good (and warm) night's sleep.

She said that it's for people up to 5'6" tall and has enjoyed getting nice and warm fast in this down sleeping bag. Having a warm sleeping bag is one of the most important things to bring along in the camping gear because it's hard to sleep when icy cold. I know this first hand because one of my first trips out backpacking I was in a bag that was too big for me. The first night out under the stars I shivered my way to sleep, and in the morning, I woke up to a coating of ice all over the bag. I was not much warmer by morning, but as the sun came up, my bones started to warm up.

Since then, I've bought nothing but the best for my camping gear. My friend got this bag at Paradigm Camping Gear located at www.paradigmcampinggear.com so after I got home, I went there and looked around at a lot of camping gear I'd like to add to make our camping trips more comfortable. I have my eye on new camping tableware made from stainless steel that could be used for other things besides eating. I could heat water in the larger stainless steel bowls and use it for washing up or even doing a little laundry by hand.

The nice thing about stainless steel camping gear is that it's easy to sterilize and that makes it usable for more than just cooking or serving. The Paradigm Camping Gear site also had some insulated stainless steel espresso cups that would be perfect to take along, too, so we could enjoy some campfire brewed espresso in the late afternoon watching the sun set. There's no end to what we can get for camping gear online, but as I learned early on, it has to be top notch to withstand the rigors of this sport and keep us comfortable.

Solo Hiking Gear Different from Group Gear

http://www.campinghikingplus.com/2010/March/Solo-Hiking-Gear-Different-from-Group-Gear.htm

I have two sets of hiking gear; one I use when I'm hiking alone and the other when I'm going with others, no matter how small the group. When I go alone, I bring along hiking poles for tricky trails because one of my eyes is has some retinal damage and I have a tough time with perspective, and I also bring along a flashlight in case I can't get back to the car in time. This doesn't happen often, but it's something I need to be prepared for. Sometimes the cell phone doesn't work in the back country, so a flashlight is indispensable in the hiking gear even if there is a lot of moonlight.

My hiking gear for group hikes is a lot simpler. I only bring along one hiking pole and if I forget the flashlight, it's no big deal. I always bring a little more food along, though, because in my group, it's polite to share. I'm a good cook and I think that people enjoy the treats I bring along in the hiking gear. I try to bring as much solar baked goodies as I can. I like that full circle sense of having cooked our food in the sun the day before we go hiking in it.

I have got to do it at least once a week. It could be at a local park or taking a short road trip to a mountain trail. It doesn't matter to me, really, I just love getting outdoors and hiking. I have good hiking gear that won't let me down in my adventure seeking path.

My hiking gear includes a sturdy pair of boots. I like my boots to come up over my ankles for extra support. I wear socks that are well made with a rather thin sweat absorbing material. My clothing is always worn in layers so things can be removed if the weather warms up and added back on when it cools down. I use a small backpack for water bottles and healthy snacks plus my cell phone, just in case.

I keep my hiking gear in good condition by using it only for my hobby. I don't wear my hiking boots or socks for anything other than hiking trails or climbing mountains. They actually hold up longer and do the job I need them to that way. There is nothing better than hitting the trail with good hiking gear!

I am planning on going out to visit him towards the end of summer this year, and he has told me to plan for quite the exciting adventure because he is going to be taking me on my very first deep sea fishing trip. I have never been deep sea fishing before, but Adam is a master of it and has loved this sport ever since I can recall. He said that that it is unlike any other fishing that you can do, and he even has special deep sea fishing reels that are attached to his boat so that you can sit in a chair and harness yourself in to make the big catch. He told me that some of the fish are so big you have to be strapped in so you don’t get pulled into the water. You can bet I am really excited to get out there on the big blue and do some deep sea fishing for the first time. I can’t wait until August rolls around, which is when my trip is planned for!

Deep Sea Fishing Sounds Like an Adventure

A friend I grew up with has been flying down to Florida before driving to the inner side of the Gulf where his father along with some relatives rent a boat for deep sea fishing. I have never experienced something like this before. All of my lines have been cast into running streams or crystal blue lakes. The story he told me about hooking a Swordfish made deep sea fishing a new addition to my bucket list. After feeling his mounted rod pull really hard, the deep sea fishing instructor ran over, sporting sunglasses and white sunscreen on his nose. Making sure the hook was in there tight, he yelled back, “this is a big one.”

Giving the control back to my buddy he fought with this marine monster for 20 minutes. It wasn’t until near the end of those 20 minutes when the swordfish leaped from the warm water and fell back underneath that he knew what was tugging on the line. The battle raged on until the line went limp. The fish had one this fight, snapping the thick line, hook probably still in mouth.

Another Deer Hunting season is over.

http://www.campinghikingplus.com/2010/February/Another-Deer-Hunting-season-is-over.htm

So how did all the Deer Hunting sportsmen and sportswomen do this year? In my state the number of Whitetail deer harvested is down twenty percent due to many variables. Hopefully next Deer Hunting season will be more productive as the number of deer can very quickly over populate the lands ability to support large herds and this is not healthy for the deer or the land. The bucks in most states will have shed their antlers by now and this presents a great opportunity for Deer Hunting individuals to hit the woods and look for these shed antlers. Why do this? One reason is the Deer Hunting person who finds these shed antlers will know for certain that particular buck made it through the Deer Hunting season. if the antlers found are large then it is time to mark that spot on a topography map as a good place to look for this trophy Whitetail buck come Deer Hunting season this fall. Deer are creatures of habit and are also territorial. They tend to stay in the area they were born and rarely stray to far from this one to three mile square location. Exceptions to this are young bucks that are run off by older bucks and the rut, when bucks will travel much further in search of does for breeding. Another thing that will force deer to find another area to live is if there are dogs chasing them around everyday. Another reason Whitetail deer will relocate is if there is to much competition for available food sources. This is why so many Deer Hunting people who own land plant food plots with clovers, etc for the deer to eat year round so they will not leave the property. If going out to look for shed antlers I always wear a good pair of hiking boots like the ones pictured here, the Lafuma XLight Mid OT Hiking Shoe - Men's.

When looking for these shed deer antlers I look for "pinch" points in deer trails. these are spots where the buck has to move through brush that can snag an antler and easily pull it loose. the buck does not feel this as the antler has already begun the process of falling off. Another good place is on a deer trail where a buck has to jump across a downed tree. Upon landing this is often enough of a jolt to kick the antler off.
