deep sea fishingA friend I grew up with has been flying down to Florida before driving to the inner side of the Gulf where his father along with some relatives rent a boat for deep sea fishing. I have never experienced something like this before. All of my lines have been cast into running streams or crystal blue lakes. The story he told me about hooking a Swordfish made deep sea fishing a new addition to my bucket list. After feeling his mounted rod pull really hard, the deep sea fishing instructor ran over, sporting sunglasses and white sunscreen on his nose. Making sure the hook was in there tight, he yelled back, “this is a big one.”

Giving the control back to my buddy he fought with this marine monster for 20 minutes. It wasn’t until near the end of those 20 minutes when the swordfish leaped from the warm water and fell back underneath that he knew what was tugging on the line. The battle raged on until the line went limp. The fish had one this fight, snapping the thick line, hook probably still in mouth.
