deep sea fishingAs an avid reader, I really enjoy reading accounts of deep sea fishing. Right now I'm reading The Perfect Storm and finding it so informative about deep sea fishing, weather, and geography. I got into reading stories in this genre after I started going deep sea fishing with a cousin who has a small fishing boat. He and his wife live on the coast of California and spend every Friday afternoon deep sea fishing. The first time I went I was blown away by how strenuous it can be. Now that I'm reading The Perfect Storm, the hard work of deep sea fishing is something I can relate to.

But one afternoon out fishing is hardly like the month or so that these sailors go through when they go out for their big catch. I used to wonder why fresh fish cost so much, but now I know the back story about how fish are caught and marketed, I no longer balk at paying those prices. There is so much to deep sea fishing, and learning about it by reading books and going out myself once in a while gives me a profound appreciation of those who make this a way to make a living.
