A little used Deer Hunting technique. |

Over many years of Deer Hunting I have tried many different methods to outwit large trophy Whitetail's when Deer Hunting. One technique I knew a few other deer hunters have used with success is to travel by rubber raft to the more remote areas a hunter would have a very difficult time walking to. I have been on float trips to hunt Canadian geese and various species of ducks but never used this method for Deer Hunting until a few years ago. I live very near the Ohio River and there are many islands located in the center of the river. Ohio is just across the river and as any Deer Hunting sportsman knows Ohio is well known for producing large trophy bucks. What happens as the Deer Hunting season progress's and the older, smart bucks begin to feel hunting pressure they will swim to these islands and stay until spring has arrived. There is ample food, cover, and of course water on these islands to support dozens of deer and the smart ones take advantage of this. To hunt the islands requires a special permit and most Deer Hunting hunters do not want to pay the additional cost for the permit so this is basically a sanctuary for large bucks. I have witness several deer swimming the river from one state to the next and also to the islands in the past. This year I decided I would buy my own rubber two man raft instead of relying on using my friends boat, because his boat is made of aluminum and no matter how careful we try to be, it is next to impossible not to make noise when in this boat. However, a rubber boat will be stealthy and very quiet, thus we should be able to sneak over to the island without alerting the deer and spoiling our Deer Hunting. I found the perfect two man rubber boat online at Paradigm Camping Gear located at www.paradigmcampinggear.com that will be the perfect Deer Hunting boat for our island adventures. The Coleman Navigator 2-Person boat is just the ticket for my friend and I to float quietly over to one of the many island's in the river and the boat comes equipped with two oar lock's, a grab line, Coleman's exclusive double lock valve technology, weighs only seven pounds, and is NMMA certified. This fine little two man boat will bring a new option to our Deer hunting tricks.
