deer hunting, camping gear
I have enjoyed many opening days of the new season for Deer Hunting but this year the Deer Hunting proved to be a tad bit more exciting than any I can remember. My morning Deer Hunting was slow to say the least. I listened to many other Deer Hunting sportsmen taking shots from all around the spot I was located, some shots close but most much further away. I had selected this particular Deer Hunting location because I normally see many deer moving through this saddle between two ridges as they are pushed through by the other people Deer Hunting. I have harvested several deer from this little dip between the hills so I felt it was only a matter of time before I would get lucky. After 4 hours and no deer I was ready to move to a new spot. As I slowly stood up and gathered by backpack I heard a twig break very close behind me. I went into slow motion and turned to find myself staring into the eyes of a deer at ten yards. My gun was cradled in my arms and there was no way to make a move so we just stared at each other for about five seconds, and then the deer kicked it into high gear and was gone. Later I spoke to the guy I usually spend the rest of the week Deer Hunting with and he told me of his opening day of Deer Hunting. he was also unsuccessful during the morning so by one in the afternoon he moved to an area we have been Deer Hunting for years with varied success. He knew there were several very nice bucks in this spot from his pre-season scouting so after setteling in he began to use a grunt call and a doe bleat. The response was immediate as up from the thick honeysuckle below him a 12 point buck came running as he thought another buck was moving in on his turf. at a range of twenty yards Mike took his shot and this hugh Deer Hunting trophy drop. Now, I have know Mike for years and hunted with him a long time. He has harvested many deer and I witnessed him drop a nice buck running at full speed at a range of two hundred yards so I was very surprised at what happened next. He said he had buck fever for the first time in his life due to the huge size of this Whitetail buck, and after his shot he just sat there and tried to calm down for about twenty minutes. When he finally walked down to the buck he was bending down to admire this fine Deer Hunting trophy when the buck jump up and began to chase him back up the path. Mike ran about fifteen yards up the muddy hill when he slipped and fell. As he was pulling his hunting knive he rolled over, and this stopped the buck from causing Mike seroius physical harm as the deer suddenly turned and ran off. After much discussion, examinging the spot the buck fell, and finding only a small tuff of hair we came to the conclusion Mike's first case of buck fever caused him to just graze this Deer Hunting trophy right under the neck, thus stunning the deer. It is now four days since this happened and the same buck has been spotted two times acting normally, so he will be just fine. But not Mike. He said he has never been so frightened in his entire life. What he needed to have handy for this not all that unusual event when Deer Hunting was the Gerber Sport Axe. I carry one and now I am pretty certain Mike will also. He would have been in a much better position to defend himself with this small, yet lethal axe had the buck actually attacked him. I bought mine at Paradigm Camping Gear online at www.paradigmcampinggear.com. We are all thankful Mike's Deer Hunting adventure is something we can now laugh about but it pays to be prepared when Deer hunting.
